Bitdefender GravityZone deployment guide

GravityZone gives you three deployment models. Choosing the wrong one costs roughly 40 hours of rework on a 100-endpoint deployment. Decide before you touch the console.

• Cloud Console (recommended for SMEs <500 endpoints) — managed by Bitdefender, no on-prem infrastructure
• On-Premises Console — required for air-gapped environments or specific data residency mandates
• MSP-hosted (the Speaklogix model) — multi-tenant, you delegate operations but retain visibility
• Hybrid is supported but doubles operational overhead — avoid unless legally required

A flat policy applied to all endpoints fails the second you have one workstation that needs an exception. Build the structure on day one.

• Mirror your AD/Entra ID OU structure in GravityZone groups (workstations, servers, executives, dev)
• Create policy inheritance: Default → Workstation Standard → Workstation Strict (executives) → Workstation Permissive (developers)
• Define exclusion lists per group, never per endpoint (audit trail and review)
• Tag endpoints by criticality: Tier 1 (servers, executives), Tier 2 (standard staff), Tier 3 (kiosk/contractor)

GravityZone has 12+ modules. Enabling them all on day one creates ticket storms. These four are the minimum-viable production set.

• Antimalware (signatures + heuristic) — baseline detection
• Advanced Threat Control — behavioural detection of unknown threats
• Network Attack Defense — blocks lateral movement and exploit attempts
• Content Control + Web Protection — blocks malicious URLs and policy categories

EDR generates significant telemetry. Roll out in waves so your team can tune detection logic without alert fatigue.

• Week 1-2: Deploy EDR sensor to 10% pilot group (mixed roles), tune exclusions for line-of-business apps
• Week 3-4: Expand to 40% — focus on detection rule tuning and false-positive reduction
• Week 5-6: Full deployment, enable automatic response policies for high-confidence detections
• Week 7+: Enable XDR sensors for M365, Azure AD, network — extends beyond endpoints

In our 2024 deployments these are the issues we see in 80% of "we deployed Bitdefender ourselves" engagements before we take over.

• No relay configured — endpoints download updates direct from internet, saturating WAN
• Default exclusion lists never reviewed — known malicious paths whitelisted
• EDR enabled without anyone watching alerts — useless investment
• No integration with M365 — phishing detected on email gateway, missed on endpoint, vice versa
• No regular policy review — policies frozen since deployment, drift from current threat landscape
